Weeknotes for 2021 week 11.

Monday 15 to Friday 19 March 2021.

Where to start? New job!

Jen and I completed our Ministry of Justice (MoJ) pre-employment checks this week. Next we'll receive formal offer letters and transfer forms to move us from home departments.

Permanently.

My 'home' is the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) where I've never worked. Yes, the machinery of government (MoG) can be a fascinating and bewildering thing.

Years ago when I was on loan to the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra), my 'home' team in the Cabinet Office got MoG'ged to DCMS. I didn't really think much about it at the time, because I was having loads of fun in Defra.

I actually consider my 'home' to be the Cabinet Office. This will stop next month and I'm not sure how I feel about it. On reflection I’m not sure it is my ‘home’ anymore. The Civil Service is my ‘home’ (note to self: you can get rid of ‘quotes’ now).

I’ve always felt there’s a certain panache working in the Cabinet Office. I started there in 2012 as a GOV.UK support lead in the Government Digital Service. I stayed on to do a community developer manager (CDM) role, then moved to Cabinet Office ‘proper’ (quotes!) in the transparency team

STOPPED BECAUSE DISTRACTED BY A DISCUSSION ABOUT CHIPS, PLUS LOOKING AT TWITTER....
