I used WhatsApp for 10 years. It was an excellent product that provided a vital service.
But ever since Facebook purchased WhatsApp, I've begun to have my doubts about using it. I don't trust Facebook and haven't used their main product for a number of years. More recently I stopped using Instagram, which is also owned by Facebook.
From 8 February 20201, WhatsApp will force users to agree to share information with Facebook if they want to keep using the service. Although Facebook has said European and UK users would not see the same data-sharing changes, we still will need to accept the new terms.
So I've decided to leave WhatsApp.
Instead I now use Signal, which is proving to be a brilliant alternative. I will send messages to all the recent WhatsApp chats I've been to explain I'm leaving and link to this blog post.
See you on Signal :-)
