UK house price index

Saw @podnosh post a tweet about a piece at http://madwdata.org.uk/blog/2011/05/05/house-purchase-prices and instantly, the data fiend in me wanted to see it visualised.  More on that below.

At the end of the piece, @podnosh askes the question, "So what services would you build from house prices information, what  could you create if you had free access to a data set like the Unique Property Reference Number?"

My answer, "I'd build an alternative to the post code, possibly doing away with the dreaded post code lottery".  I'm so naive :-)

Anyway, downloaded the Halifax housing price index data from http://www.lloydsbankinggroup.com/media1/research/halifax_hpi.asp then cleaned it up in OpenOffice and pumped it into a couple of visualisation tools.
